Northern Pike Enjoy The Fight

The northern pike, otherwise known as the jackfish, is a freshwater fish common in the Northern United States and Canada. It can weigh more than 45 pounds and can extend up to 4 feet long. Fishing Northern Pike has been gaining popularity in the field of sport fishing. A  pike is valued as a food fish and is known for the fierce fight it delivers whenever hooked.
A popular technique in catching pikes is through trolling. This requires towing a fishing bait or a lure from a moving boat. This is especially efficient during the winter and summer seasons when female pikes stay deeper under the water. Another technique is the use of float tubes for fly-fishing which enables the angler to access deeper waters without disturbing the stillwater fish.
Since a Northern Pike is not a picky eater, using live baits has been one of the best method to catch this fish. The rule of thumb is to use large baits when fishing in large lakes, apparently because larger pikes are present in these sites. Using a perch instead of a minnow as bait is advisable. It is a well known fact that pikes also eat dead animals found in the bottom of the river or lake. Dead baits can also be used.
Using a spoon lure is also one effective way in fishing northern pike. A curved, flat metal resembling a spoon is attached to the end of the fishing line. Once pulled, this spoon starts to wobble simulating the prey’s movement.
Catching a Northern Pike can really be fun, and this is all possible when one knows the right tricks.
