The corn steep liquor is, as the name implies, a glucose extraction from corn. The thick brown liquid can be boiled and poured over the bait. The carp gets instantly near to a bait with such liquid, especially if the quality of the liquor is pure and undiluted with water.

Carps also love the salty taste of marmite. Usually boiled with eggs and poured over the tackle bait, marmite is also used to marinate dog biscuits as baits for surface fishing.
