Fly fishing is a great sport. It becomes even greater to the angler if fly tying is done by the angler himself. Fly tying is no easy task. This is the reason many sport fishers do not do it and have somebody else do it for them.. However, nothing could be more satisfying than an angler catching his fish with their own hand made flies.

First thing needed in fly tying is patience and good and simple instructions. With clear diagrams of how to do it, the sport fishing enthusiasts will already be able to make one in a matter of minutes. Fortunately, fly tying kits are available in many sport stores. It would contain all important items needed in fly tying like the feathers, thread, vise, scissors, bobbins, hooks and clamps. This kit may be a start of an expensive hobby of fly tying.

The artificial flies used in fly tying are very much like the real bugs and insects in different types and species. Which one to use depends on the fish you want to catch. It would help to look at the area where you intend to fish and observe the real insects that are in or on the water. Use the same type of bugs, which will surely have a fly replica in the stores, to attract the fishes on that same spot.
Tying flies would mean winding one element onto another on the hook. A finished product would consist of a body, a tail, wings and a head with eyes. There are many ways of tying flies and beginners may try doing the easiest ones at first. Just be patient and in no time, you will be able to do all the complicated types of fly tying.
