Making bamboo fly rods takes a long time—it could take up to more than 100 hours because of the very meticulous process fishing rod makers have to follow in order to achieve a high quality rod. This is the reason why manufacturers sell bamboo fly rods for fly fishing at a very high price. Some collectors even pay around $15,000 for antique bamboo fly rods which are in very good condition.
However, there are some people who are not big fans of bamboo rods because these rods are usually more prone to damage if a person doesn’t know how to take care of them. Damage from heat and nick and breakage are the most popular problems encountered with using rods made from bamboo.
But despite these drawbacks, many fly anglers still want to have even at least one of these very unique bamboo rods that have high quality. Not only do they serve as collections but also for the purpose which it is made for—to catch fish.
